| With Freeney gone, Colts turn to Rice
Dwight Freeney's season is over, and now Simeon Rice has a chance to start anew in Indianapolis. Freeney, the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end and highest-paid defender in the league, was placed on injured reserve Wednesday by the Colts. He's scheduled to undergo surgery later this week or early next week on his injured left foot. The blow is potentially devastating to Indianapolis, which has already been depleted by injuries. Seven starters missed Sunday's game in San Diego, and Indianapolis lost four more starters, including Freeney, during the game. "Dwight is a player you cannot replace," former Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders said. "But we'll continue to move on, continue to get better. We'll put new guys in and continue to roll. That's what Dwight would want us to do." The Colts (7-2) don't have a choice.

Celebrities behaving badly
Celebrities would do anything just to get some publicity. They would probably even break the laws to try to get some attention from the reporters, and it has been seen very often on the TV. When Paris Hilton went to jail for breaking the law after that you heard her name everywhere like if it was right for what she did. There have been more celebrities like Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears that have followed Paris Hilton steps. It's like if breaking the law is the only way they could get some attention and they do. At the end they look bad although they themselves don't realize it. UVa Notebook: Long suffering from strep throat
CHARLOTTESVILLE - Virginia standout defensive end Chris Long has strep throat and did not practice Monday, coach Al Groh confirmed at his weekly press conference Tuesday. Long, a senior captain and finalist for every major national award for a defensive lineman, was a spectator during Monday's practice, watching from the sidelines wearing sweats and a stocking cap. "(He) left halfway through feeling miserable," Groh said. Long has a history of strep throat developing into pneumonia, so "we'll just have to wait and see where that goes," Groh said. Long, who leads the Cavaliers with 12 sacks, 17 tackles for a loss and 21 quarterback pressures, was not available to reporters. The senior has started 35 straight games, a streak dating back to the beginning of his sophomore year.
Minnelli a bit unsteady as she goes
It was "Liza with a Z," but without 34 pounds, at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Saturday night. Liza Minnelli announced the weight loss during an occasionally wobbly performance showcasing her determination to overcome her problems with health and husbands. Minnelli looked thinner than she has in decades. Her face is no longer puffy and, if anything, verges on gaunt. One costume showed off slender legs, and a shimmering black blouse exposing one shoulder cast the 61-year-old Broadway baby in a rather sexy light. Her balance was a concern throughout the show. Minnelli's movement was unsteady, and she joked about needing the director's chair she sat in for a few numbers. Truth be told, her hands did more dancing than her feet. Hip replacement surgery will do that to you.
No magic pill
Adrien Nicholson doesn't need a medical expert to tell her how difficult it is to lose weight or that most people fail no matter how hard they try. The 51-year-old San Luis Obispo resident said she believes she has tried every diet invented: the grapefruit diet, the cabbage soup diet, Weight Watchers, over-the-counter pills, and on and on, to no avail. Three years ago, though, she began taking a weight-loss formula prescribed by Dr. Thomas Najarian of Los Osos. Since then, she has lost more than 200 pounds. The combination of topiramate, an antiseizure drug, and phentermine, an appetite suppressant, curtails Nicholson's appetite. When combined with a daily 800-calorie diet and mild exercise, she sheds 1 to 2 pounds a week. Given that two-thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese, according to the U.S.
